Steve's first love of photography came while taking a photography course at St. Francis College. During this time, Steve bought his first professional camera and began taking pictures of downtown Fort Wayne for class projects. At St. Francis, Steve quickly realized that he preferred seeing the world through a viewfinder instead of being in the lab.
Since 2001, he has photographed over 200 weddings in addition to hundreds of family and senior portraits. Steve continues to improve his skills with ongoing training and seminars by studying with specific studios such as McIntosh Photography in Cleveland Ohio, and also with the premier photographers in the world at the WPPI convention every year.
Alongside Steve, you will find his wife + high school sweetheart Sara, who takes care of all the details of the wedding day. Sara doesn't miss a beat when it comes to posing, arranging flowers, fixing hair and straightening hemlines. Her attention to detail is unmatched as she keeps everyone on time and in good spirits with an outgoing personality that often eases wedding day jitters. But don’t think this is all she can do…Sara is also the second photographer on the wedding day. Whether it be quietly shooting in the ladies “getting ready” room or snapping unbelievable candids at the back of the church before the proud father and nervous bride head down the aisle…her eye for capturing the unscripted moment cannot be beat. Sometimes it’s just a different perspective of the same shot, other times it is a detail that others would miss. Steve and Sara capture so much more than would be possible for just one photographer during the course of the big day.
In 2004, Steve and Sara joined the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) Association. This is a professional Association for photographers worldwide to join in order to gain knowledge and expertise from the best in the industry. In early spring of most years, they participate in the National conference for wedding and portrait photographers. It is held in Las Vegas and offers a variety of speakers, classes, print / album judging and the biggest Trade Show of the year. During this time, they divide and conquer to maximize all the conference has to offer and come back armed with new poses, backgrounds and tons of ideas to put into place throughout the year.
In 2005, Steve and Sara moved themselves and their business to Leo and transformed a building on the property into an unbelievable photography studio (see studio page of the website). Since that time, the studio and surrounding property has evolved into the most unique shooting space around…everywhere you look is a new background or professionally landscaped area to use.
Steve and Sara had always continued to work full time “day jobs” in addition to running the business. In 2007 Steve was ready for the big jump and became a full time Professional Photographer! With the additional time to focus on the business, Steve created the Senior eXperience and continues to photograph additional family sessions. This also allowed us to become more involved in the community as a donator to the Leo High School after-prom, the Active 20/30 Club, Bishop Dwenger Saints Alive and various other local organizations.
Steve and Sara are one of the most successful husband and wife teams in the greater Fort Wayne area. This is confirmed by the amazing number of referrals and repeat business. It is the greatest compliment to get a call / email from a former bride / groom or senior when they want Bentz Photography to be a part of the next big phase of their life!

September 2006
With the help of our colleague, Steve Noble, from McIntosh Studio in Cleveland, OH, we have included a few pictures to show us in “action” and going to Plan B on a raining Saturday afternoon. This particular Bride and Groom planned to go to Lakeside Park for pictures with the wedding party, but were chased indoors because of the rain.
We quickly went into action, Plan B… making a visit to our Studio. At the studio, we were able to finish up pictures with the entire wedding party and do all the formals of the Bride and Groom together. With all of this, we were still able to stay on the timeline and get everyone to the reception with time to spare. Not to mention, we even got a few outside pictures between the rain drops. Like they say… it is good luck if it rains on your wedding day.

Steve uses Nikon equipment for all photo shoots in the studio and on location. His favorite camera is the D300, but he continues to keep up with the latest developments in the photography industry. In the studio, Steve uses White Lightning strobes, Larson soft boxes and reflectors.
